King LouisThis is an ink sketch of my American Bulldog, King Louis. Ive been experimenting with quick drawings and not over thinking my final product. its an activity I teach my art students… process over product. Also, to shade, I used finer lines and contour lines to give the effect of deeper tones. This was done in under 30 minutes on the last day of 2018.
Protect our ElephantsI did this piece using .06, .08. 1.0 and bold lines from my ink pens. This was a very quick sketch (under 15 minutes), because I needed to send a print to a local elephant rescue sanctuary. This was my first dabble in fine line ink sketches and I think it turned out nicely. Also, it’ll help promote a local animal rescue that includes elephants, peacocks, dogs, cats, llamas, goats, donkeys and more. Art for a good cause is always art I enjoy the most!
Sea HunterThis was a holiday gift for a dear friend who loves spear fishing. He does it responsibly and follows all the Florida Wildlife laws so no worries that Im promoting a “poacher”. This was done initially with .06, .08.,1.0 and bold ink pens; but I was not happy with the depth and shading of the piece so I ground up a piece of graphite and used a wet paint brush to give the piece an ink wash feel and add depth. This was one of my more enjoyable pieces because I had to experiment with different techniques in order to get the desired result.
Romeo and the RoseId have to say wildlife art is quickly becoming my favorite due to the fact that I can personify the animals and exaggerate their features to become more “human-like”. This piece does just that, the giraffe’s face has a slight smirk as he holds the rose (assumably) for his valentine. I love pieces where I can add a story behind the art, especially humorous depictions. Lets hope the Romeo the giraffe impresses his Juliet with this rose!
Mahi Mahi (Dolphin)This is was my first real practice with my new watercolor pens. Since sea life is known to be so colorful and bright, I felt I had to do more than just a black ink drawing for this piece. I love how bendable the pens are (especially added with water). BUT WORD TO THE WISE: DONT OVER DO THE WATER WHEN BLENDING! YOU WANT TO KEEP AS MUCH TRUE INK FROM THE PENS AS POSSIBLE!
Sunset SirensThis was a gift to a 9 year old girl in the family so I had to mix basic illustrations with color and pizazz. She wanted mermaids and dolphins, but I thought a whole seascape that read fun and playfulness between mermaid and dolphins would be best. She loved the final result. This piece was mixed media… ink pens, Copic markers, watercolors and sharpie.
